Even video tapes kept in the best environment deteriorate. Unfortunately most are not kept in a controlled space. A 10 year old VHS will typically degrade by 10-20% and most tapes are much older than 10 years. Moisture, heat and loss of magnetic charge can result in a total loss of a tape.
If you have a working VCR, play the tape(s) to verify it is in working order or bring it to our offices for us to check its condition. We can't promise to restore the quality of your VHS or recapture a tape once it has been damaged beyond repair but if you have a playable VHS or VHS-C, we can capture to digital form (typically MP4) to preserve your family's memories. Don't wait to convert your videos from tape to a digital format, even if they are in good condition. |
